My Favorite Simpsons Moments

Like many diehard Simpsons' fans, I caught The Simpson's Movie on opening night. Former KU and NBA legend Danny Manning was in attendance (his legend, unfortunately, did not make it), and squeezing past his tarantula legs towards the only seats left proved soul-shattering. Nevertheless, the movie was entertaining, though none of the characters' antics seemed to flow as they normally would have on the show. Yes, nothing can top those zany Simpsons episodes of old.

simpsons fat tony disco stu
A gentleman's agreement.
One of my favorite Simpson's characters is Ralph Wiggum. As obese as he is, his comedic timing is impeccable. For example, in the episode "Springfield High," Fat Tony is making a back-alley drug deal with Disco Stu. When Stu asks for the goods, Ralph appears out of a garbage can and asks "What are goods?"

The Simpsons moment I cherish the most comes from the episode "Apu Too Many". In lieu of explanation, the show opens with Apu sitting in what appears to be a whorehouse. He looks completely strung out, there are empty syringes on the table in front of him, and he is complaining about the program on the TV (Time Cop 3). As if all of this wasn't enough, he picks up the remote, changes the channel, and is greeted by a TV announcer saying "Now, back to Time Cop: 2!" The announcer's overemphasized words are met with a sigh of relief from Apu, and scene closes with him saying, "That's more like it!" while tying a tourniquet around his arm.

Probably one of the funniest moments is where Bumblebee Man is involved in a high speed chase, though he doesn't appear to notice he's being chased. He hums along to the song "Sunshine Lollipops" and taps on the steering wheel rhythmically. He nonchalantly looks at his watch and the time says 4:39. He gets a surprised look on his face and says "4:39! It's time to die." this is followed by Bumblebee Man driving his car off of a cliff while yelling "Stella!"

the simpsons lenny and carl doctor hibbert
Karl: "This one, fell down some stairs."
Lenny: "I fell down some stairs."
The ongoing need by the writers to enunciate Lenny and Carl's gayness is something that makes me laugh every time. In one episode we find a drunken Carl coming home late at night. The door slams and a nervous Lenny is sitting at the table. "What's for dinner?" Carl asks. Lenny explains "I didn't know what time you would be home so I ordered pizza." Carl becomes enraged. "Pizza?! Dinner Ready is Pizza?!" At this point Carl begins to manhandle Lenny. "Carl, stop! You're hurting me." cries Lenny. Carl gets a crazed smile on his face. "You wanna see what hurts?" He smacks Lenny. "That's what hurts!" The scene ends with Lenny moaning and crying, and their adopted (kidnapped) child Milhouse is shown upstairs, trembling with fear.

Another good moment is when Marge is browsing through a new store in Springfield, since her regular stores are closed for fumigation. She opens one of the freezers and picks up a frozen dinner. Marge doesn't notice, but inside the freezer stands a completely frozen and naked Hans Moleman.

These are some of the rock-solid Simpsons moments that make me feel like a rock all over!
